Managing Archived and Deceased Pets

Doggy Time allows you to manage pets that are no longer actively tracked by marking them as "Archived" or "Deceased". This helps keep your dashboard organized while preserving all the memories and data associated with these pets.

Marking a Pet as Archived or Deceased

To mark a pet as archived or deceased:

  1. Go to the pet's profile by tapping on their card from the dashboard
  2. Tap the Edit button (pencil icon) in the top right
  3. Scroll down to find the relevant section:

    • Archived Status : Use this for pets you're temporarily not tracking (e.g., fostered pets that have been adopted, pets staying with someone else)
    • Deceased Status : Use this when a pet has passed away
  4. Select "Yes" for the appropriate option

  5. For deceased pets, you can optionally set the date when they passed

  6. Save your changes

What Happens When a Pet is Archived

  • The pet card shows an "Archived" label
  • You cannot add new activities or start timers for archived pets
  • All existing data remains intact and viewable
  • The pet can be unarchived at any time by editing their profile

What Happens When a Pet is Marked as Deceased

  • The pet card shows angel wings indicator
  • You cannot add new activities or start timers for deceased pets
  • All memories and past activities remain accessible
  • The pet's profile serves as a memorial of your time together

Viewing Archived and Deceased Pets

By default, archived and deceased pets are hidden from your dashboard to keep it focused on active pets.

Using the Filter Dialog

To view archived or deceased pets:

  1. Tap the filter icon (funnel) in the top center of the dashboard
  2. In the "Visibility" section:

    • Check "Show archived pets" to include archived pets
    • Check "Show deceased pets" to include deceased pets
  3. Tap "Apply" to update the view

You can combine these filters with name search and species filters to find specific pets.

Using Settings

You can change the default visibility behavior:

  1. Open the app drawer (hamburger menu)
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Find the visibility options:

    • Hide Deceased Pets : When enabled (default), deceased pets won't appear on the dashboard
    • Hide Archived Pets : When enabled (default), archived pets won't appear on the dashboard
  4. Toggle these settings to change the default behavior

Note: The filter dialog settings will temporarily override these defaults for your current session.

Restoring an Archived Pet

To make an archived pet active again:

  1. First make the pet visible using the filter or settings
  2. Go to the pet's profile
  3. Tap Edit
  4. Change "Archived" to "No"
  5. Save your changes

The pet will immediately become active again and you can resume tracking activities.
